CONTACT JENROSES@UW.EDU FOR ADD CODE. INDIGENOUS GEOGRAPHIES CAN BE UNDERSTOOD THROUGH MULTIPLE LENSES, DISCIPLINARY POSITIONS, COMMUNITY ORIENTATIONS, AND HISTORICAL RELATIONSHIPS. IN THIS CLASS, WE'LL TAKE THE BURGEONING AN EMERGING ACADEMIC FIELD OF INDIGENOUS GEOGRAPHIES AS OUR STARTING POINT FOR CONVERSATION. THROUGH CLASS DISCUSSION, GEOGRAPHICAL PLACE-BASED PROJECTS, AND IN-CLASS WRITING ASSIGNMENTS WE WILL THINK CRITICALLY ABOUT COLONIZATION, ANTI-COLONIALISM, AND COMMUNITY BASED RESEARCH THAT CONSTITUTE THE FIELD OF INDIGENOUS GEOGRAPHIES.
Catalog Description:
Views indigenous geographies through multiple lenses, disciplinary positions, community orientations, and historical relationships. Students think critically about colonization, anticolonialism, and the community-based research that constitutes the field, through class discussion, geographical place-based projects, and in-class writing assignments.
