Student Organizations

The AISC is a University of Washington Inter-Tribal organization which exists to promote Native culture, education and Native students’ interests, needs and welfare. AISC supplements and complements the formal education of Native students at the University. We encourage the expression of Native students’ opinions and interests to the University of Washington and the community at large on issues affecting Native American student life and culture. We also promote non-discriminatory actions in all forms and forums. We provide a physically supportive environment to achieve these objectives. Our members are students of a Native American heritage and non-Native Americans who believe in, are interested in, and willing to promote the purposes of the commission. (asuwaisc@uw.edu)

Indian Health Pathway (IHP) provides a path for Native medical students to stay connected to their community while enhancing opportunities for Native and non-Native medical students alike to learn how to integrate their American Indian/Alaska Native patients’ cultural, spiritual and traditional needs into the health care relationship.

The Medicine Wheel Society (MWS) is an organization dedicated to promoting American Indian/Alaska Native/Indigenous culture, education, and advancement in health care and diversity in medicine. MWS brings together the people, traditions, customs, and the spirit which enable our AI/AN/Indigenous students to maintain their sense of community while in medical school. MWS is open to ALL University of Washington students – American Indian/Alaska Native/Indigenous and Non-Native students. (medicine_wheel_society@washington.edu)

The Native American Law Students Association (NALSA) was founded in 1970 to support Native American students at the University of Washington School of Law, and to promote the study of Indian law in order to serve tribes and tribal communities with commitment and excellence. (nalsa@uw.edu)

The Native Business Association is a student organization founded at the University of Washington to create a community for Native students with an interest in the Foster School of Business. (uwnativeba@gmail.com)

The Native Organization of Indigenous Scholars (NOIS) was created to bring together University of Washington graduate and professional students of Indigenous descent. By building a supportive community in which to network, socialize and share stories/theories, we aim to examine conceptions of culture, knowledge, and power through an Indigenous lens. To this end, NOIS sponsors a research symposium each spring where graduate and professional students across multiple disciplines present their work as emerging scholars to the University of Washington and broader communities. It is our hope that sharing our stories and knowledge in this way will create shifts in theory and practice, as individuals and as a collective. (noisrso@uw.edu)
